How hard will it be to install rune to linux via shell connection

If anyone could explain the procedure, we have (soon):

1) server with ftp/shell connection
2) rune linux image ready to be uploaded

They're the only ones that I can think of with extensive knowledge of the penguin.

The shitty part in all this is:
1) Servers cost a lot of money, a good way to save some is to rent a machine, not a game process
2) Linux installation seems very hard on remote computer
3) TRBP3 has mismatch between different language versions but only if server runs on Windows

Windows would be cheaper but then there wouldn't be much cheat protection. Then again linux costs more and is harder to setup. Can't rent a machine where rune is installed on linux since it costs too much. Ain't life fun.

Don't bother colocating unless you use a facility that has competent sysadmins on hand who are willing to help *at least* 8 hours a day, whether for free (built-in to the colocation cost) or for per-case fees.

Many colocos will install and set up Linux (I recommend Debian's stable release) for you; after that, installing Rune should be trivial.

What do you mean about cheating? The Linux version of the Rune server software is less vulnerable to cheats? That seems far-fetched. Or do you mean actually people cracking into your server?

About Rune specifically, Unter probably knows more; he actually ran LCA on Linux for a while, but I think he switched back because it was unstable or something.

Linux costs more?? Most distributions (and Debian, especially) are available 100% free of charge, or if you want a CD, at a trivial price.

In general Linux doesnt cost more but still I would get much cheaper and better servers with win2000/2003 setup.

TRBP3 is a cheat protection mutator for rune
TRBP3 causes mismatch between different language versions in WINDOWS - in Linux no mismatch

So basically I can use TRBP3 in linux server but not in windows server.

Hmm, I believe he switched back because of iLan and the many many many advantages to having LCA on windows (look, two servers, ja?) .
