Hello everyone. This topic is a review of my first 3 days of playing rune and what I learned at Low Caliber to become a better player... Hopefully this will help the new players like myself become better at the game in a short amount of time...
1. The first day I entered Low Cal, I was slaughtered, I think my score was like 5 and 20. It was terrible... I was like, "What is the big secret to this game? There is tricks to it I know, but how intricate can it be?! I mean you just swing a sword around and kill guys right?" Well I figured there had to be a reason for my quick death so I took a break from fighting and I watched and asked questions... The main thing I learned was to dodge... Now don't get me wrong Dodging is well and good but there had to be more to it that that... So I went into the "Weapon Room" as they call it and started to swing the weapons around... And found each had a timing to it. I found that was the key, and went into the arena. I found I killed more but still didn't do spectacular... So I ended the day...

The next day I found that to do the basic 3-4 hit combo all you had to do was tap the forward key and they in the middle of the combo you could do what ever you needed, strafe, dodge jump, and the combo would still be the same. I also learned that the timing didn't just apply to you, It also applied itself to your foe as well. Wait for them to do their combo then strike withing range with your own. That is the basis of the game...

After these basic things I learned that you can be creative in your fighing by disarms and shield breaks, which is accomplished by striking the weapon or shield. I also learned to block with the shield from the side, not ready it with a block, it is more effective that way.

Well its my 3rd day, and while I am not the best player by far, I get a lot of people not beliving I played the game for only 3 days, or say I am good for my time... I just wanted to share what I learned with others so they won't get fusterated and quit, before truly appriciate what the game entails...

Disarms and weapon breaks are actually unique to Low Cal, as is a lot of other features you've seen.

If you don't mind me asking, why did you come here first, and say not into 1.00/1.01 servers, or HOV Deathmatches and Arena?

I was playing when the game first came out, and then just stopped, and here I am again. I learned some new things like the above, and I threw away my old style: KILL.

And Dante, here's one reason to that question that maybe came to mind; It's the most popluar serverof them all!! I've played in practically ever single server, and none campare to low cal.

It's not the most popular, it's only the best. And no, I'm not adding an "I'm a ho" disclaimer.

Welcome aboard, Aladar. I hope I get a chance to use my mace technique on you before you get too good for it to be effective. Sadly, from the sound of things, you'll be too good by next week, lol.

LoL, mini, maces are good for 1v1s, keep using them...

I'm also newbie to both Rune and Low Caliber. I happened to find Low Caliber because it's 1) got a low ping ;-) and 2) it happens to be the only server I can find that I can connect to with my non-HOV Linux version of Rune (I guess Loki went out of business before they could port all the upgrades required for connecting to most of the servers out there).

One thing I've noticed some players doing that you didn't mention is some kind of crouch-jump. I haven't managed to reproduce it, and I can't figure out why they're doing it. Can anyone offer some enlightenment?

BTW, thanks for mentioning the bit about "tapping" the forward key to start a combo, and then being able to do whatever you want once it's started. I think I subconsciously knew this, to some degree, but I never actually experimented with it to figure out new techniques. I have successfully used it to my advantage (I think) recently. :-)
