A way to communicate interest in playing without sitting in an empty server

It'd be cool if there was a little app like my Gnome panel applet that we could run when we're available for playing; could talk to a simple HTTP server... Heck, it could just be a regular web app, come to think of it... People could just type in their name in a form, it would pop up a new browser window that sat in a META refresh loop until someone else registered interest, and then pop up an alert when that happens. Or something.

Maybe I'll code something up, if people are interested in something like this.

Yeah, I'm EST, but I don't have a sane sleep schedule ;-)

I used to hang out in the chat channel, but nobody ever used it. :-(

Anyway, I'll see if I can hack something up; should be really easy. I'll use Python and Twisted (plug ;-) of course.

The only times I ever visit this site, the server is empty. I joined and waited for 15 mins a few days ago and no one joined (despite the fact that there were around 6 members on the boards).

I'm with radix on this one: I have better things to do with my time than to sit in an empty server; so I won't be doing that again any time soon.

The problem, I think, is that the server lists don't refresh when your browser does. Sometimes, you never even know that someone is there. Even more often, you only see their name after they have left. It's most frustrating.

An understandable concern, but when the web site communicates with the Rune server too often it negatively effects our game performance. We dropped it back to every 90 seconds about ten months ago.
