GrenNew LC Map Draft Complete
As some of you may vaguely remember I was deliberating on a project a few years ago that at the time was called the Low Caliber Network, which would feature multiple servers running different maps with physical in-game passages or roads that would transfer you from server to server. I've decided to go rekindle this plan.
I've completed (completed the draft, anyway) the first map for the network (which I'm now refering to as LCW 'Low Caliber World'). The map is a viking town, modelled after the original viking village from Rune, but significantly different.
First of all, there are no runestones or fence in the middle of town. Farms and rooms for more houses have been placed there instead. All of the "non-enterable" houses have been replaced and now all the buildings in the village have full interiors and decorations (fire places, tables, weapon racks, furs, chairs, etc.). I have also added several exits from town. One of which will lead to the Low Caliber Arena for certain. The docks have been preserved because my next plan is to turn the viking longship into a mover and let you actually leave the town for another destination by getting into the ship and "using" the head piece. The ship will leave the dock, travel out to sea, disappear, at which point the players on board will be transported to the appropriate server, and the ships will return to the dock a few real time minutes later. (maybe 2 minutes or so) I find this idea alot more attractive than just having your character leap into the boat and vanish in puff of smoke.
Anyway, the most important part of the village map:
We have 5 normal longhouses, an armoury/training hall, and a meeting hall.
Now this is where the scripting comes in (this is the part I could use some help with; hint hint). Each longhouse will have a "household", which can consist of friends, a guild, or people who don't even know each other. Each member of that household's character name will be tied to the spawn point in that particular longhouse. Therefore, whenever you log into the village, your character will appear in his/her house. That's Step 1.
Here's Step 2. The scores of those players in a household will determine the type of items that spawn in the longhouse. A household with excellent combat ratings will have better weapons, better shields, more food, etc. Items will only spawn once per map cycle, and doors will only be openable from the inside, to prevent people from looting their neighbors weapons before they log in. These weapons should, in theory, be able to traverse from server to server with the player (so there will be a bit of an item dupe possibility but it's not like it's all that important)
Here's step 3. Take all suits of human clothing/armour, match them with all human heads to make every combination possible. Allow people to 'purchase' their own outfit. This will be an extra download, but should only need to be downloaded once, not once for every different server. Note that this is a long ways off but I think it would rock.
Also, my intention is to eventually have 2 towns. Once that happens (providing we have a decent player base, but I'm convinced this can be done) each town will be considered a 'team' and all LCW servers will share a reference file of who's affiliated with what team/town. This will be represented in-game by colored names on the radar, rather than a colored player model.
Other side notes: There'll be wilderness maps between towns with random monsters in them. The monsters will wander (in a hunting party, if appropriate [i.e. goblins]). The monsters will be appropriate to their surrounding terrain, and will not always spawn in the same place, at the same time, or at all, each map cycle. This'll make their activities less predictable and add a little bit of suspense to the mix.
Anyway. Sound a little far fetched? Maybe. But all of that is possible within the realm of a month or two, with diligent work. If you have any interest or think you have any way you can help, let me know.
I need someone with some decent scripting skills because those I lack.
If anyone wants to check out the map, also, just say so or contact me on AIM: Daemonifuge

MercucioThis, my friends, is going to be
the shit. LCW is going to kick all sorts of ass and revive the Rune community.
The first village is well on it's way, hopefully it'll be finished and up for download in a day or two. If you guys have any serious suggestions for the village name, throw em this way.
We're going to be using that shield-less broadsword idea that was proposed a while ago and everybody liked, but then forgot all about it(Gren came up with something, bit different than what you'd expect), and a new axe is on the way.
The teleport between servers is done, managed to link to LCA, works like a dream. Next is wilderness.

POKRISHKAI was thinking about such stuff. It sounds great!
A few things I think you should add:
1) If there will be peacfull places in the town, so I think you should make possible to walk, not to run. Stupid, I know, but it would look nice.
2) The owner of house should be able to open it from each side. And the thing I told already in LC Stronghold topic: It should be able to chat only with those who are in the same place (house, near street and ect.)
3) You should add some special music for each places (Town theme, Cave Theme and ect.)
4) And the last thing I wanna told you `bout is attacks on towns. Bots should attack both towns time to time. Will be very nice, I guess.
I can only map, not script. I just leaned how to create maps and objects. If you want, I can send you my first one

. Does anyone know where can I find tutorials for scripting in RuneEd? As easy ones as you can, I`m lame in it.

SocketboyYeah I am pretty muh useless in the creative department. Most I could do I think is beta test.
But still sounding awesome and can't wait to play

METH!7MEHRuneEd seems daunting at first but youll get the hang of it. I myself map without a idea yet, 6 months of studying tutorials.
And i hate beta testers that come and go next min your refeshing serverlist and some asshole using your map grr.

ManowarThere's an easy solution for that... don't advertise the server and just give the IP to your beta testers.
