Whoo! Glad you asked, lol, because Battlefield 1942 (& BF1942's Desert Combat Mod) are what Woody, Mano and I have been playing a ton lately, as you may have noticed. It would be awesome if you could pick up a copy of Battlefield 1942: World War II Anthology (it's the entire BF1942 Collection) for $40 and came to play with us on Ventrilo and such. Incredible game, won't ever actually get old.
And about UT2004... while the game kicks absolute ass (and was the center of attention for a lot of us here in the club, the demo that is), I just haven't considered playing in a while. I was always a huge UT fan, but since I have more games than most of you have in hard drive space, I just haven't put the time towards it. I bought UT2003 in December 2003, I suppose that's enough for me... though I love the Onslaught mode in UT2004. When I played BF1942 with the fellers and then hopped on UT2004 Demo with them and Middie... well, I just lost interest extremely fast, wasn't as exhilirating as I remembered. So you're better off with BF1942.
But, you said "lately" and, well, BF1942 was GOTY multiple times in 2002, so its not so new. The latest installment is Battlefield Vietnam, but its disgusting lag even at the lowest settings on my rig make it not worth it. You'll need at least an Athlon XP 3200+ (or OC'd 2500+ like I have) with a 9800XT (unlike my 9600PRO which will be traded off for a $500 Radeon x800 XT) to play it fine. Otherwise, don't even think about it. If your system CAN handle it, though... don't bother either, because then you can't play with us
