| Hey Shady, you're still around, is that bullshit you said bout LCC true?
BTW wendol is definitely not fit for a starting point. Is there any possibility of being able to transfer objects through the teleporter? For example if you have a sword on you and you teleport while keeping this sword in the new server.
The starting point should be like more of a hangout centrum gathering place rather than a battle zone, although you do still have the ability to fight, it's just the theme of the map will not encourage it. |

| Well, I was kinda thinking we could start people in a town that would be kind of a "safe zone" (because there would also be some lamer who doesn't understand the concept of a "town" or doesn't care and would just be spawn killing). Now, because some people might just want to login and fight, we have the Arena directly connected with the town, so all you have to do is walk up to the big hexagonal stone building and in through the big door and you're in the LCA. |

| Well look at Gren's idea for a start map. Wendol isn't exactly the place I would like to see myself every time I start a game.
Think open, sunny, not too complex with little rooms. Wendol would be a very nice map within this network, but a starter map definitely not.
Maybe something from the single player maps. The starting town seems very tempting after a little fixup.
Wendol is an idea as good as any other, I just done like it. |

| I certainly think Wendol is a badass map, but yeah I would like the starting location to be more of a conventional, small town built around the arena. Of course this being a group project everyone should have their say of what goes on, it's just uhh.. Wendol is not very wide open and alluring. It's dark and opressive (don't get me wrong, that's awesome) it's just, I think the mood for the starting town should imply the beginning of a journey, not to sound corny or anything.
I did consider the starting town in the single player. It's a possibility. I'd really much rather use a piece of original mapping though, even if modeled after the Rune starting town.
We can put this plan into action as soon as we have this town. We should come together on a decision immediately. We either use an original map, most likely forged by Nutt, or we modify an existing map and use it. Let this be the final hearing.
Gentlemen, what is your decision? |

| I don't have the single player files unfortunately. If you could send me the starter town maps that would be sweet.
Would sure save a lot of time over making one from scratch. (And it's gonna have to be en especially well made one) |

| Here you go, Nutt. I'll check that out now, Bloodhunter. RagnarVillage2.run (3,225 Kb, 42 downloads) Starting town |

| Looks like I'll need the single player files anyways, it can't find voiceoversnd. I'll look into that.
That's unless you can remove any sound files from voiceoversnd that are in the map. |

| Each non-player character in that map should have four sound files located next to their person. The surrounding icons are time and proximity triggers. If you get rid of the sound files, problem solved. The one exception to this is Ulf, the man in the long house that fights you. He (and his building) have a complex set of triggers. You should delete them all. Also, the tree next to Sigard with the spiderweb of triggers surrounding: those triggers will make Sigard chop the tree, and the tree will fall. Delete all these triggers, too. Do all this, then tell me if you are still missing any files, and I'll send them.
Though I would leave the cool ambience though, like the wolf howling, stream trickling, etc. Those are scattered sporadically throughout the level, and help to add atmosphere. Can you install the single player version if necessary? |
| | |
Peregrine

| Well the problem is I can't delete any of those things because the editor will not open the map lol.
Not a problem tho I just got the voiceover, I'll check it out now. |

| Ah gotcha, lemme know how it goes |

| That map is hardcore, takes my FPS for ride all the way down to 40 at the roof, although the GFX are very pretty. You'd think a P4 2.4 + 9700 would be able to handle Rune on the fly. I have been proved wrong Very nice though, I like it. There's a pathway down to a boat, that could be used as one portal. Kinda strange the player turns blue before fully entering the water, but thats nothing. This is Ragnarvillage2 so I'm assuming there is a Ragnarvillage1, how is that map? |

| RagnarVillage1 is actually a cinematic map. All it is is the Runestones in the middle, nothing else. The camera circles while the elder talks to the warriors and Ragnar's balls drop, that's about it.
But yeah, so I'm thinking clear the fence from the middle, leave the runestones cuz they're kinda cool looking, but killing the fence would make it a little more wide open.
Experiment with adding some fog if necessary, that would cut down on the graphical load a bit, and might be nice for setting it apart from the original version of the map. But just not too much, otherwise it'll be kinda wierd and clostrophobic(sp?).
You should cut a pass into the mountains somewhere, apart from the village proper, where players can go to journey out to the wilderness. I can think of a few ideas for the longboat, but let's leave that on hold for now until we give a little more substance to our plans.
And of course, you're the mapper and it's your map, so use your creative liscense on whatever you want. Keep me posted man, thanks.

Yep, I was thinking the exact same thing. Cutting down the characters and all those damned triggers should lighten the load on the CPU, the CPU is clearly the bottleneck here not the video card. Slicing down those internal processes will speed things up without degrading visual quality. And this wilderness, before I thought you mean there would be some portal to another "wilderness" server. I see you want to extend this map instead. Alright that sounds good I like it. I gotta finish up the Arena first, shoudldn't take too long anymore. But then I also have a bit of non-Rune work to do that I have been putting off for some time. Well anyhow I'll get to it ASAP. |
| | |
Peregrine

| Actually yeah I did mean another wilderness server, just a physical portal to get to it, like pass in the mountains.. don't want to make the town too big or memory heavy, since it'll be the login point for the majority of players. |
