ArenaMOD or ArenaMOD4

I've been hearing that some people prefer the way ArenaMOD looks, it's simplicity. I personally prefer ArenaMOD4.

So now I'm stuck both ways trying to figure out which one I should expand on.

So dudes, let me know which style you like better. If you cannot for some reason open the attached maps, you can take a look at the screenshots in the Work in Progress forum under
SkyBox development update and SkyBox development update #2

ArenaMOD (simple stone entrance)

ArenaMOD4 (complex wooden entrance)
ArenaMOD (simple stone entrance)ArenaMOD4 (complex wooden entrance)

SHADYI like the second one exept for the steps which take up half the curb.

FaisonDefinately the second one NuTT. It tends to break up the monotony of all the stonework.

FaisonOpps also will draw you to it because it stands out.

My thoughts exactly.
The stairs, they add something to the scene. The entrance without the stairs looks too plain. The second reason for the stairs is it nicely breaks apart the arena curb ground texture with the hallway texture. Without the stairs if I were to change up the textures right beside eachother it wouldn't look right, you can imagine what I mean. Place two different kinds of textures right beside eachother on the same axis and there you go. Also you can walk right over the stairs from the side so they won't interfere.

Lord WintermoonI would like to see the second one

@ ArenaMOD4 (complex wooden entrance)

NuTT98Alright seems like ArenaMOD4, I think I should go tell Unter cause he's the one that said he prefers ArenaMOD

Unter den UebrigenLol, dude; the one thing that gladdened me about 1v1Arena above all maps I've encountered was it's absolute soft-spokenness. That way, the focus is on the dynamic of the fight and the objects involved.
The stone door is perfect for that; looks like the dwarves carved it in by hand.
It's when you don't notice the architecutre that you know it's good.Tue February 11 2003, 01:45 PM
Unter den UebrigenPS. If you're telling me it's not feasible because of BSP errors that's another thing. I'm comforted by the fact, however, that you employed the exact shape of the entrance in your wooden montage.

That door is the last thing they built, they could have advanced and started woodwork

I could make the stone one instead, but it doesn't seem very compelling. The wood feels nice n cozy, the cold stone just seems kinda dull

. It feels kinda different in the game than looking at the pics, you might want to DL and run them for yourself.
Well it's 11-1 for the wooden design

but in the end it's your call. So in a word, which one to continue on?

Unter den UebrigenLol, dude; you should know by know, it's
policy for me to go with the least popular opinion. You can use the wood as long as you find a solution for the roof: wood doesn't bend that way; but stone does.
Consider a wooden entry way with a stone interior. Convincing wood ceilings are difficult to pull off and expensive with the BSP.

Doesn't look that bad huh

. If I make the ceiling wood, I would have to make the walls wood. If I make the walls wood then I might as well stick with ArenaMOD, but noone likes that

In conclusion I think I should stick with wood.
And a nice bonus, you can throw the weapons and they will stick in the wood

very cool.

Manowareh, with the whole weighted opinion thing - unter's outweighs all of us.... i previously voted for the wood but now i change

Tue February 11 2003, 05:43 PM
Unter den UebrigenLol, dude; but I'm saying: wood doesn't bend that way. It looks contrived. Why not go for a stone interior with the artsy wood entrance?
Tue February 11 2003, 06:01 PM
NuTT98I figure being surrounded by stone for the past year would yield towards wood being an attaction

I don't think anyone is gonna stand in the hallway looking at the ceiling thinking if wood bends or not.
BTW it's not bent, it's straight, just in segments so it appears to be bent, nothing unrealistic about it

Tue February 11 2003, 06:02 PM
Manowarlol you know what? i don't care!

i'm not doing the work, and it looks to be a lot of work, so as long as it's done i'm good
