You guys might have got some replicated messages about this, but I propose Friday at 11 EST 8 PST for our Club night. If this sits well with you guys: Aegus, you have the honor of updating the calendar.

And another thing: as soon as we get a base of say, six or more solid players, I move to host a Low Caliber tournament right away, given the server is up, against teams of four (an 8 man server will be fantastic for two teams of four), with a $200 cash prize for the winner. Granted, divided four ways its a modest sum; but I think money is the only way to drive a tournament.

Since we don't have any income yet or dues, I'll pay the thing this time out of pocket unless you guys feel a philanthropic burden. But really, any chip-in would help.

I'm in the middle of creating a map DM-1on1 map with our coat of arms on it and--you guessed it--only low caliber weapons. The only question is: for a tournament if we allow weapons of the third class (i.e. Viking Broad Sword, Trial Pit Mace, Viking Axe). I'm of a mind to restrict it to the first two classes, since we'll inevitably get teams of four who hold themselves exclusively to the Viking Broad Sword: still a common weapon and according to the constitution confined exclusively to "exceptional circumstances". Same applies to shields: Viking Shield and Dwarf Shield.

We'll need to set the ground for rules of engagement, and get the publicity out, and we're in the money.

8 pm (PST) Is fine with me, Unter, and I'm ready to update the calender, given the date and time for the meetings are alright with you, Odin (or would you rather be called Colonel Steele? just checking Smile ).

As for the tournament ideas you suggested:
I don't know how I'd feel letting just you, Unter, throw down 200 bucks for our first tournament. Maybe we should wait until we can all pitch in some cash as far as tournaments fought for prize money goes. I do agree, though, that using money to drive a tournament is a good idea.

Can't wait to see the map, and I can see where your concern lies in only allowing the first couple levels in each of the three weapon classes.
I've an idea - Perhaps we should amend the constitution, adding a tournament policy of sorts. Like, say, (and this is just an idea, mind, as far as the Viking Broad Sword is concerned) any member wanting to wield the Viking Broad Sword in combat is to treat it as a true two-handed weapon, in the vein of the highest level weaponry, whereas one cannot wield a shield while wielding, say, the Dwarven Battle Hammer..

I don't know, something like that. We'll talk about it and see what happens

Interesting, very interesting.

Well, when I decided to underwrite this club...I had a general idea of what I was getting myself into financially. But some modest source of revenue in the future would be helpful.

I imagine when we get the Low Caliber server up, the actual dynamic of Low Caliber combat will evolve (actually something I've rarely experienced, save with our own Members)...I imagine it will be a different game. But old habits die hard: and many of the kids having raised themselves exclusively on high caliber will find it difficult, I imagine, to wean themselves from the use of a shield with the Viking Broad, and might require a bit of policing...which should be kept to a minimum in tournament play, mainly by plenty of forethought (without stifling, mind you). Hopefully, once rolling, these things are relatively self-sustaining.

One thing we might institute, and I like your idea: is the distinction between public and private Deportment. On another server with weapons not limited to the Lower degrees, might a Member use the Viking Broad or any third degree with this particular trade-off? That's fantastic, but perhaps difficult to uphold.

Which brings to another point: during tournament play, we'll probably have to designate an omnipotent administrator-spectator-referee, just to keep an eye on things, and in extreme cases, lay down the law.
