A buddy and I recently bought a HUB to play some sweet sweet Rune action on a LAN, but for some reason when either of us starts a game, it won't pop up in the LAN Games. If it does pop up, it has a 9999 ping and 0/0 players. We played sacrifice on it and it worked fine, plus we can send files back and forth. We tried playing a few other games and nothing worked. So uh, what's up?

Ok, lol will do... I'm not sure what KIND of cable we're using, I'm guessing just normal Network Cables. I'll get the name of the HUB and post it soon.

hope you aren't using crossed wire. Make sure it is a straight through category 5 cable.

Are you sure it's the cable? I mean, one of the four games we tried to play worked fine, and we can send files back and forth. I could also connect to the internet through his computer.

Port setting. More or less is closed or disabled maybe. Does the computer have a firewall? If so open the port 7777(I think thats the one) . Just a thought.

i was having this same problem, it has to do with the firewall, i could optimize for lan but i couldnt advertise the server.

since we're questioning the techies, i got one. Why won't my friends comps connect to the net thru my LAN? I use a standard 16 port hub and then go out thru a linksys router to my wireless T1 dish. My friends can't seem to get their comps to agree with this setup. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Dude you have a hub then a router. Why? Just use the router. Does the router have a web based configuration program. If so you might have to open a few ports or enable DMZ hosting or whatever Linksys calls there Free to the Net setting.

Hey everybody. I'm Ministrations LAN buddy and a new member. First i'd like to say, Mano, stop throwing things. Secondly the HUB we used was a Netgear Ethernet Hub, model EN104. 4 port, 10base-T. If that means anything to anyone out there.

It's not the cable, or the HUB-which is kinda good: Frequency Range 1-100 MHz Propagation Delay 548 ns Delay Skew 50 ns. The problem seems to be the comp's network settings; what OS do you use on your comps? Is the same for all or is different- know that the older versions of Win ('98 especially) have some probs seeing XP game servers. [Edit] Welcome aboard Brand Another thingy: if you have antiVir progs running, try to disable them first: they seem to be built only to set firewalls on our comps

Thanks Impaler. We both have XP. I had Norton running when we were trying to play the game. never thought of turning it off, we'll try that next time. We played Sacrifice without trouble, i dont understand why we couldnt play Rune or these two other games (Metal Fatigue, and Ghost Recon). But, we'll try.

the router is used cuz of the T1 dish software and whatnot, the router only has one comp port comin out of it . . . and into the hub. I think its all in the individual comp settings anyway like Impaler said, but could anyone tell me which settings where? One of my friends has ME, two of my machines (that work) have 98, my other machine (working) has XP Home, and my other friends machine has XP Home. Any ideas on what settings may hate the internet?

quote: Unless you have one of those POS router and hubs in one, then you always have a router and then the hub, unless you only want one computer connected to your router. **** Someone already mentioned it, but if people can access the server on the lan, but not from a machine outside the network, it's cause you're not forwarding the proper port to the game server. So if your rune server is on, say, a local address of 192.168.1.**, pass the port 7777, or 7778 to whatever number ** is. This is a router setting, NOT a firewall setting. Please stop telling him it's the cable, it'd be pretty hard to inadvertently buy anything with the proper connections that isn't CAT5. For Brand-X-Savior, are you using a router and then a hub? Can you ping your friend's comp through a local address (i.e. 192.168.1.***)? What happens if you ping your wan address from a computer outside the network?
