Alright fellow Runers, here's the deal: We won't be using our new second server for an Arena server and here's why. Unter plans to convert the middle arena to an actual 1on1 arena. So while in the LCA you'll have the choice to do some FFA in the Large Arena or true, uninterrupted 1on1 in the Middle Arena. What's even better is that this can be done without converting us to an HOV server. (which alienates some, and lets in those horrid HOV skins.)

Co-Op unfortunately hasn't been working out. Been buggy and it's been fairly empty.

We put up LowCal Asgard and then some other maps in a cycle and had a good time. We're thinking this is the way to go.

We'll have to make some decisions on where to take it from here and this is where you, fellow members and the general public come in. We're not necessarily looking for new additions per se, we wanna know what we already have in the LCA that can be carried over to a cycle.

For instance which of these would you like to see carried over.

  • Breakable Weapons
  • Dropable Weapons
  • Our Powerup modifications (which includes updated mace and higher requirements for getting them)
  • Win by Five Rule
  • And everything else on the server

We also discussed removing the bloodlust runes and the powerup runes (you'd have to earn your powerups LCA style) and only keeping the health runes.

We also want to know what the consensus is on Teams or just every man for himself classic DM Style.

Lastly, we want to choose approximately 4 maps to cycle. (could go three, could go 5, lol) We want to resurrect our LowCal Asgard and cycle that and have the rest of the cycle be maps that came with the game. (But hey if you have any ideas on custom maps suggest away.)

I've listed some of the more popular DM Maps but anything goes.

  • DM - AcidChamber
  • DM - Alfheim
  • DM - Coliseum
  • DM - Hilder
  • DM - Seaside
  • DM - Ruins
  • DM - Hel
  • And Many More

Tell us what you think, we'd like your input. And as always, don't vote don't complain. Big Grin

I would approve of all the LC mods currently in place on any DM-x cycle we get! those mods are very fair to all and well tested. I would also like to offer any maps I made/will make for cyclying as well.!Long live LCC!
Thumbs Up

I thought about cycling at least one of your maps but I think it's best to introduce them one at a time, have LC Asgard up with three basic maps and after a little while take out one of the plain Rune maps and put in one of our own and keep doing this. I think if we just put 4 custom maps people won't download them. But one at a time is a different story.

Nice, Mano; you hit all the main points and then some.

Couple of practical considerations:
  • Weapons break, however don't drop.
  • Rune zone over the entire map; no boxing zone.
  • The position of each rune is saved at the beginning of the map, and runes of power and runes of strength are eliminated.  %66 - %75 of the saved rune positions can then be randomly filled with a rune of health at any given point, to avoid what Fais called "camping" on the blue rune.
  • Radar with or without teams; in the latter case, however, it will be color sensitive.
  • Win by x a must.
  • Probably take the current Asgard sound effects, as they seem to pass well to the "practical" environment of the level; LCA sounds to the "theoretical" of the arena.
  • Bonus rune power for each kill.

-i would love to have all the same mods as lca to be over in the cycle...
-personally, i would hope the weapons break but don't drop...with many people, weapon respawning already feels slow...
-there are no runes at all, even bloodlust ones...cos too often i feel people would go rune cycling...ie run from rune site to rune site instead of fighting...but i see thats the cleverness and strategy needed for the map, eg the ruins....so i can adapt if need be....
-i agree with fais, i would hope that our mapmakers get the chance to strut their stuff...this would encourage indolents like myself to get into this aspect of rune as well...
-since this is a no-holds-barred opinionfest...i just like to say that i would rather not have the maps, ruins, acidchamber and seaside

but really, im easy-going and can adapt...
important thing is its lcc style...
Cool

oh, forgot to say that i feel that the random weapon start was pretty interesting...

and as much as we like to deck people picking up their trousers (ie weapons)...in small maps such as coliseum, weapon starts may be more appealing...

So any ideas as to when the LowCal Cycle is going up? I played there when it was up before and absolutely loved the variety of it.

I'll add my two cents now:

I personally would like to see all LCA mods moved over except for the weapon drop. No boxing areas, all rune areas. Asgard sound is good too.

Faison's suggestion to eliminate the health campers is great. Of course I don't want runes or bloodlusts on the map, you have to earn those LCA style. Thumbs Up

I think I'd rather see a Classic DM over a Team DM but I'm pretty flexible there. If we did do teams I'd prefer just two teams. I've been on servers with up to five teams and it's pointless.

I think it's a given that LowCal Asgard will be in the cycle. I'd like to see Alfheim, (rarely cycled but IMO a fun map), Hilder or Ruins, (one but not both as they feel very similar to me), and Hel is a fun map too.

I'd eventually like to remove one (out of my three candidates it'd be Hel) and put one of Fisters maps in cycle. Fister's maps are very, very well done and I'd like to see one get some cycling.

So..... we haven't heard very many opinions.

That's fine and dandy just don't whine like little bizatches if you don't like something.

A little slogan I went by in the past when certain elections were important to me:

"If you don't vote, don't complain."

personally I just Love Rune in all it's forms...
Some maps get yucky after a while but that's more of a color preference than anything. All maps are good when you have a good crew to slaughter hehe. Thumbs Up

Greetings (ehem)... I agree with the map cycling. i must admit having only one map has its...... downsides.
Ive come to represent all the laggernites of the Kingdom Lagalot that supports low cal..... "I King of Lagalot hereby request a download page in Low Caliber.com dedicated for maps and other mods" rather than downloading it from within rune since rune slows down the connection badly........... I give my thnaks. More power to Low CAl!!!

It isn't like we haven't mentioned a download package. It is just that we are in transition. Look all of these ideas are great but it takes time to apply them to satisfy everyone else. Also LCA and LCC is forever changing with these ideas. So you have to consider you still will have to download a package either way if all of these changes come into effect. There might be a package change once a week or every month. Who knows. I for one want to help. I like to map, code html and I am getting into 3D Modelling. So when I have this course completed within July I will be turning my mind towards LCC. But I am thinking of having a little pick me up vacation after the school work to go see my girlfriend for two weeks. So after that I will be hard at work for the little and tall people of LCC.

So have we narrowed it down to about four or five good possibilities?

  • DM-Glacier (see attached)
  • DM-Hel2000
  • DM-Thorstadt
  • DM-Hildir
Thorstadt and Hildir are classic and never seem to lose a certain appeal.

DM-Glacier.run (1,034 Kb, 64 downloads)

All this "good ol' maps" are ... old Confused; aren't you boys bored to play the same maps over and over again?
I'm with the custom maps. If we put 4 custom maps on the server the kids won't download them all at once-just the one that is curently played.
And I think Fisty and I (+other mappers that are here) can come up with some customed maps (each around 200-300 Kb tops).

Nice, let's see the goods; in the mean time we'll need an inter-solution.
