So I'm just putting this out there... feel free to shoot it down.
Since level 3 weapons are not totally against the LCC constitution, and since the community has some coding talent, I believe it would be possible to add the Broadsword to the LC weapon family without creating imbalance. Hear me out:
1.) Two hands/No shield - The big problem with the broadsword is the "turtle" effect. Shield directly infront at all times plus enormous swinging arc and high powered damage/severing. However, remove the shield from the equation and you've got a guy with a big sword, but no defense. This could help to bring the weapon into balance.
2.) Respawn delay - I would suggest replace the floating hand axe in the middle of the arena with a single broadsword, facing down and floating and looking generally cool. Have one respawn every 10 minutes or so, so that there is a limited number of them per map. Also let them decay from the ground quickly, so that they have limited circulation. The broadsword might alternate spawns with the handaxe in the time between spawns.
3.) Inflated rune cost - The Vampire ability is potent. Almost too potent. So make it expensive, like a full rune meter, or thereabouts.
4.) Animation change (optional) - The broadsword normally gets three swings in a charge, and two stationary swings. The first two strikes of the charge are vertical making them easy to dodge, so this is not by any means necessarily "overpowered", however. It may be apt to change the swing animations and combos to that of the level 4 dwarven work sword, which has more limited manueverability, and frankly more realistic animation.
Well that's about it. Just a thought. Lemme know what you guys think.
That's really good insight. One alternative might be to make it spawn out in the middle of the mayhem, where only those who brave the free for all have a chance of getting it. The jump spin thing is an issue with any weapon, but it's defeatable, in my opinion.. the more elements you add to any game the more ways people will find to be pricks, it's just a question of "will this bring more fun than hassle?" So uh.. I guess that's up to you guys to decide.
Im not sure if i like the idea. It sounds interesting, but even without a shield the Broadsword still has a significant upperhand over the other low caliber weapons depending on the wielder of course. Im not completely opposed to the idea, but there still is the issue of a one hit kill that isn't necessarily a bad thing but could become quite old. However the Broadsword is also the best defense against a shorty. Which could bring a little balance back to the server. Also, and this is just my opinion... The Broadsword can be very difficult to beat with any Low Cal weapon. Like i said it depends on the wielder, but it is usually the go to weapon for those who know what they are doing against low caliber weapons. So it has it's ups and it's downs. I guess the only way to find out if this is a good or bad idea would be to test it out, and as long as it isn't a huge upperhand i wouldn't be opposed to it.

I think we should take things one step at a time. We have alot of great idea's that would not only better our current servers but will hopefully bring some traffic back through them.

I am all for this!! I would suggest however that you SLIGHTLY lower the damage instead of changing the animation.
I have to say I would absolutely LOVE to have the broadsword in the mix. Back in the day, in my first clan (Highlander Clan), that was just about the only thing we used and to this day remains my favorite weapon.
For some reason I am the best at avoiding other attacks and attacking with it compared to any other weapon in the game. I don't know about fighting skilled low cal peeps with it, but I would love it a ton. If nothing else I would really like to give this a try. Also we could limit it to either 1 on 1 or FFA... for balance.
My only beef with the viking axe is that it's direct forward hit is devastating. It doesn't seem like much but it can stop just about any sort of combo with a low cal weapon dead in it's tracks and usually lop a limb off the victim. It's 1st strike too, so it's not like you have to time a combo to get it either. :/
Well I'd like to stick to weapons of the first and second degree. I left LCA for normal arena games and I find that even with a shield a goblin axe is great agaist broad swords. Once the shield is gone I move on to roman sword.
Perhaps put it just high enogh that it's out of reach, taunting those who wish to bear it.
