Hey guys, part ofbeing back is mapping again, woohoo! And i was wondering if there would be anyway to make rune maps in ACAD and port them. ACAD seems about the same as RuneEd, except much better. I'm taking a class on engineering graphics so i have access to the software, and i finished the years curriculum in 2 and a half 6 weeks, so i have 2 and a half more 6 weeks of nothing to do. Being a genious sure does leave me lots of extra time. So, if there would be anyway to port maps from ACAD to RuneEd (although im pretty sure it isnt) i could use my time in engineering graphics to make some pretty kickass maps. l8s.

You read my mind, dude; I'm in the process of working out IRC support for the Arena.

And also, let me know if you see any good IRC clients in JavaScript; we could integrate it into the forum.

Im not sure, but I guess 3dsMax can import CAd-files and well there is that gmax, maybe there is also a import/export filter for 3dsmax, which supports Rune.

Exactly; I wanted to ask Impaler for sure, but I think they might be able to import AutoCAD files directly into 3dsMax.

Yeah it is posible, but then RuneEd won't recognize the map (it doesn't understand complex poly-objects).
But - hey, u're free to try: when you import in 3dsmax (from AutoCad) he will take everything as a single object; u must export this file in UnrealEd (runeEd can't do it) and finaly in RuneEd.
If you got any results tell me.

heh, I learned AutoCAD in 5th grade and was student of the year, does that make me a genius too?

Anyway, about the IRC channel (not all of us use windows all of the time, dammit), I can set up the channel for you and administer it. Just tell me the network you want to use (as long as it's not Dalnet, Dalnet's just a SpamBOT wasteland now). My friend and I collaborated on a multi-network supporting script a while back, so I can essentially be on IRC on ~10 different networks with only one script running. And this comp's up running IRC and an FTP daemon 24 hours a day. Let me know.

Yeah, dude: your answer is right there; export it in 3DStudio, which ports into RuneEd (beware Impaler's caveats, however.)  You might not even need to fork out the $3000+ to get 3DStudio either.  I believe a utility called "milkshape" will bring in 3DS and output Unreal.  It's freeware.

Here's the deal with IRC; there's a mod for UT called screen which allows for in-server IRC.  I thought it would be a convenient way to link the Rune server with the Web server, as crazy as it sounds.  How much overhead would it cost to keep a channel running for us?

I'm a bit confused, I checked out the screen documentation and tried to load it into RuneED but it tries to open packages that are specifically for UT so I couldn't really try it out. Anyway, your plan is to what? Have Screen access a web server that is simultaneously gathering data from an IRC server (sort of like an ingame Java IRC client?). So the ingame players can see people chatting in IRC via the Screen object and the IRC users will see the ingame chat that is being posted to IRC via the webserver (like the stat system on the frontpage)? If that's the case, the additional server load should be miniscule, assuming you don't have some crazy idea of running you own IRC server =] and assuming fewer than twenty people would be using IRC simultaneously. Please clarify.

I don't believe is freeware man; is more like time trial: after 30 days is gone... Frown

Or get gmax, this is the 3dsmax for gamers. You only must give some details about yourself to register, than you can download gmax, which supports allready many games.
