I've got spring break next week and the 'wife' will be outta town so that means i should have a good amount of free time. I plan on getting the basics down on how to map. I believe i patched my rune ed correctly, but the damn thing crashes a lot, so if someone wouldn't mind telling me so i know that I did it right.

Aside from that, I think I'm good to go. I've seen many links go up for tutorials so unless anyone has any that haven't been posted I believe I'll have enough resources to get going.

If the thing runs correctly, yes, you've patched it sufficiently.  The tools they gave us back in 1999 (like the Prince song) are in the stone age compared to the ones with UT2003.

The best advice seems to be: save frequently.
