First off, I'm not really sure of how doable this would be without making a huge download for people trying to join the server -- or if Unter would really want to go to the trouble of coding this in - but I thought it would be a pretty cool idea.

What if we had sort of levels on the LCC server? When you join the server, you start as level 1, and as you kill opponents you gain in levels. At higher levels you find that you hit harder, throw further, and have an extended health and mana bar.

---------------
Levelling Up

I'm thinking an experience point system - like all classic RPGs - would suffice here. For example the leap from level 1 to level 2 would be 200 exp points, 2 to 3 would be 400, 3 to 4 700, etc.

The number of experience points you get from a kill varies on the level of your opponent. Examples: If you are level 3 and kill a level 1, you'll get very little experience. If you are level 5 and kill a level 1 you will get next to no experience. However, if you are level 1 and kill a level 5, you will get loads of experience, and level up a few times.

When you get killed, your experience drops and you can possibly level down. The inverse of the above works here... if you are a level 5 and get killed by a level 1, you drop a level or 2.
---------------

Now, I know what you're thinking. Lamers would abuse the heck out of this! But I don't think it would really get that out of hand... how many lamers really have any skill? (Shady excluded) They would have to kill the more skilled players on the server to achieve the higher levels.

Even if a lamer got to a higher level, the more skilled players could bring his levels down while increasing their own.

Anyways, like I said, I'm really not sure about the doability of this. It would be a lot of trouble for Unter to go to.

As always criticism is more than welcome, so post away!

that's a neat idea, Min. I'm in the process of trying to teach myself UScript so maybe it could a project that I could undertake.

That'd be awesome, Mano. If you'd like, I could work out some formulae to aid in the process. Is that the language Rune uses? UScript? I'd love to learn it too. I was sorting through Unter's code for LCC, and it's interesting to say the least. I understood most of it, but a few parts stumped me.

Whoa, I wouldn't mind getting into this stuff. I have TextPad... but I don't think I can compile yet. Does it say on this page where to download the compiler and how to install it with Textpad? If not, what should I use?

Hmm, I'll keep searching for tutorials on how to get started. Thanks for the info, Mano Beer

(Edit) Mano, do you have MSN, that would probably make this conversation easier lol. Mine's ian_@hotmail

You guys should get a wicked editor from me.
Midknight Files

It is called Ultraedit and it can do just about anything. Much better then Notepad. It can even read C/C++/HTML/PERL etc.

You hit it on the head, Min; that's precisely what we're in the process of doing with LC Stats: depending on the skill of your opponent you'll gain by frags, but also lose rank by deaths in proportion to the difference in your levels.

Yes, son of a bitch; that can be expanded at will once the system is in place.

lol, i think only experience levels are feasible at this point...although in the one of the servers maybe member-made weapons can be incorporated? a la that whole diablo/rpg/dress-the-barbie mentality...

Sweet action... it sucked trying to test it out on an offline server, so we should try playing it some time. Beer

Not opposed to this whole idea. Just as long as you dont make it so extreme that if you get killed by a level 1 guy you drop 2 levels. Unless you have a max level really high. Cuz if you are a level 5 and some bitch-ass kills you from behind while you are fighting someone else, that would piss me off to drop 2 levels. But hey, thats just me.

haha yea, I figured it would get abused (as anything else would) by idiots. But since most of them don't have the skill to back their actions up, it would be easy to get your levels back.
