Our recent troubles with impersonation got me thinking about setting up a "nickserv" for Rune so you can register your username online and ensure that you and only you play on LowCaliber under that name.

With the statistics coming up, that will almost be a necessity so people can't maliciously suicide in your name and fuck up your score.  For now, though, it might be a convenience.

The way it would work: you'd set a password in your user.ini file under

[Engine.PlayerPawn]
ngWorldSecret=xxxxxxx

I just want to say, that Commander Keen realy regets the thing and I would say, give him another chance. He can play fairly and honorable, and if he does it, please accept him as a duellist. I just say, we all were kids or are, and we all make mistakes.

I mean, I give shady a chance, soy ou maybe could give Keen a chance to. In teh end it all is about having fun and so it should be.

The first person to come unto the server with a particular username and ngWorldSecret combination will automatically "register" that username; anyone logging on thereafter with that username and a false ngWorldSecret would become "Ragnar".

A username could exist for an indefinite amount of time in the public domain, however, if

- no one logs in with that name or
- people logging in with that username haven't set their ngWorldSecret.

It should therefore allow people with a stake in their nickname to have it automatically registered, without forcing a registration process on the general public.

The only thing required on the user-end would be to set the ngWorldSecret in their User.ini.
