So today celebrates the assassination of Julius Caesar(44 B.C.). He was forewarned on this day to beware the Ides of March. A date created by the founder of Rome and the Roman calendar, Romulus (753 B.C.). The Roman calendar has many Ides, actually one every month in the calendar which all depended on the moon. In March, May, July and October the Ides is on the 15th and every other month the 13th. That being said makes sense to our present superstition of Friday the 13th. The Roman calendar has another important date each month that resides on the 5th and 7th. This day is called the Nones. The half moon is present on these days were as on the Ides its a full moon.

Yes, the brothers Romulus and Remus founded Rome but Romulus, created the Roman calendar.

Yay for learning that stuff freshman year in high school and still remembering . I hated that play, Julius Caesar (Shakespeare), but it bewildered me no less than the schieße I have to put up with reading-wise now. Had to memorize the speech given to the people by Mark Anthony, as it still stays in my head to this day. ["But Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is an honorable man."]

As for the Nones, that nearly slipped my mind, but the Ides of any such month will never escape me brainy.
