Hey remember when we were talking about it would be cool for us all to have custom skins and a custom weapon skins etc?
Well it was decided that the download was too big already or something. Would it work to make it an optional download from the site and then not have it in the server list so you wouldn't download it by just joining the server and the stuff would look default.
Anyhow here is what I think the roman should look like if we could do that...

I'm not sure if it's possible... but it would be nice if the changes could be made client side so that at least we could see the custom stuff while the general public would all see the defaults.

I love the idea and would find it interesting to see it done, of course. I understand there used to be a coat-of-arms 'round this place that anyone could use... but I wasn't here for that. I don't see a problem with raising the filesize just a wee bit for the sake of, well, giving LowCal even more 'unique-ness'.

About that roman sword, nice photoshop work there. However, with this game, that test definitely won't appear clear as day for most people (especially since a lot of you don't play the game above 800x600/1024x768 for some reason). A better thing to put on there, one that would stand out more, is giant diplomatic-style 'L' 'C' 'C', vertical along the blade. Although that doesn't agree with the current Rune-style of small runic across certain weapons (like the Viking Broad Sword), it'll stand out just fine and look damn nice.

Actually, how about we somehow make it so its a summonable weapon only usable by members (and minors alike)? That'd be a bitch to code, but ye never know, could be done...

I propose to write the LCC in Futhark and change the "roman" in "viking" sword...


I'm sure that Ulfhednar can add some more.

I doubt it can be done client-side. And one changed weapon/shield would range between 40-75 Kb - extradownload, depending on the number of modified textures.

That's a good idea, Bjorkan. My favorite 'form' of Runic writing is Elder Futhark and that's it right there. I prefer Futhark over any other Runic if you do decide to use it on there. By the way, Bjorkan/Ulfhednar, can you guys read Futhark ?

Well that's good, even that size for all 6 weapons would do absolutely no harm to a human. It is probably about 1MB for the RAK mod itself... but it is only downloaded once. That's the thing, I see no reason to have a problem with the filesize unless you're downloading something every time you have to join. Its a one-time download, really enhances the server (weapons would give it a nice form of originality) and, well, are just plain worth the time. Even though we with 3.0+mbps connections are extremely limited in speed when downloading from LowCal, its still a fast download, and 40-75KB goes in seconds! I mean, you leave the room for a drink and you're in, what's all the fuss about? If you mod all weapons and 2 shields (3 would be a waste), you get 320-600KB download. Honestly, its worth it if it can work out, and filesize should never be an issue in such a situation.

No! Seriously! Why wouldn't this work?
When the skins etc are installed on
1. The server
2. Our computers
and
3. you take them out of the server file list in the .ini so that it won't prompt people to download them
shouldn't it
4. WOrk for us
and
5. Just show the default for anyone who didn't pre download?
Or is that when we just look invisible?
Anyhow I also wouldn't mind the extra download. Have to admit that would be fun and could draw interest to the club if you get your own cutom member skin if you join (eventually) or something.........

Yes we do . The elder futhark is the simpliest form of futhark, and it's the one i'm the more familiar with. Would be nice if some inscriptions in the game were written in carved elder futhark.
