Hey, if anyone's a good animator with Flash (preferably Frame by Frame) I might have need for your skills some time in the new future. Here's the earliest of the early versions of a game I'm trying to put together in Flash. Note: Your shield must be fully up or down before you can swing your sword... otherwise it's in the way Anyways, I'm playing around with hit tests at the moment, so I'll soon have stuff you can break -- Then I'll put together some quick AI and voila! A duel could ensue. Also, it's been 2 years since I've done anything related to Physics so I was wondering if anyone could reply with a particular formula... What is the formula for finding out the path a projectile takes after being launched at a certain angle. I know that it has something to do with x (displacement), v (velocity), g (gravity constant -9.8), and the angle at which it is launched... [edit] Oo, jeez I guess I also need the height...

HEHEHEHE I was thinking on the same kind of idea for the club. Just have to get this school out of the way. Will be done in two weeks then I am going nailing for another two weeks then come back and I am all ears for ideas and stuff.

projectile motion redux use vectors for the original formulae and consider in two planes... v(squared) = u(squared) + 2 a x v = u + a t x = u t + 0.5 a t(squared) [u = initial vel, v = final vel, a = g here] so u would become u cos(angle) or u sin(angle) as launched from a height or whatever...etc etc

Updated the little game... now some invisible pitching machine shoots baseballs at you... slice 'em up! Thanks Dante, I'll try to make sense of all this... I was really hoping I wouldn't have to use Sin/Cos, as I don't think ActionScript has a function to calculate those sorts of things... Going to have to sort through all this stuff.

Dude! What version of flash do you have? There is always a cosine and sine in flash. They are mathematical functions. If Flash never had cos & sin then the shit on Phong could not be done. Math.cos Usage Math.cos(x) Parameters x An angle measured in radians. Returns A number. Description Method; returns the cosine (a value from -1.0 to 1.0) of the angle specified by the parameter x. The angle x must be specified in radians. Use the information outlined in the introduction to the Math object to calculate a radian. Math.sin Availability Flash Player 5. In the Flash Player 4, the methods and properties of the Math object are emulated using approximations and may not be as accurate as the nonemulated math functions supported by the Flash Player 5. Usage Math.sin(x) Parameters x An angle measured in radians. Returns Nothing. Description Method; computes and returns the sine of the specified angle in radians. Use the information outlined in the introduction to the Math object to calculate a radian.

Yo B, maybe you should let your old buddy from displaced help ya out a bit. you know i have nothing better to do

lol, ok... I figured it would be totally stupid of Macromedia to not include cos and sin... anyways, I don't think I'll need to use cos or sin on the fly in the script so long as I give the projectile a Y and X velocity.

Ok, sweet action, check this out! This is what happens when I screw around with physics formulas... hehe My next trick will be to make it bounce off the boundaries of the frame and make it so you can control the x direction it launches. FB, man, if I keep this crap up, we'll be making a Dudeman game before you know it... I think it's time we get Flash back on your system so's you can get back into the swing of animating.

Sounds good chief. We can do that saturday before the drive in...hey wait a tick? why am i telling you on this forum? why dont i just use the damn phone?

DOHYour bad HAHAHAHA A phone, what is that?

I think it's time to put the whole bouncy bouncy off to the side... This is far more complex than I had hoped! *goes back to learning some other stuff*

Check out the source from this guy. Phong's Source Code

yo mini, i resurrected some more high school physics while having dinner... two ways to approach the bouncing ball: 1. calculus, as essentially you're computing "decay" and exponential/logarithmics; parabolic motion would be especially relevant here..slightly yicky though... 2. simplistic physics energy equations, which can be repeated...i'm thinking about "conservation of energy"... so gravitational potential energy = kinetic energy...eh? so essentially: m g h = 0.5 m v(squared) where m = mass, g = 9.812, h = height, v = velocity... i'm clueless about flash and dont know what university level physics would say about these simple formulae, but i hope these at least get you back on track, ok?

*Goes to Phong and has a seizure* That stuff is so intense! It's blowing my mind just thinking of the formulas he must be using to make that stuff. I think that's the formula I was talking about! hehe, thanks Dante! I'll try it out

Nice work. Great usage of tweens, but how do you handle with frame by frame stuff? Nice work on blending the swift3D into it too. My email is milk_rox@Canada.com, drop one by me.
