Well, I'm not American but how I figured from movies you guys don't pay much attention to the new year day and all celebrate Christmas. Well, I got to say that we, Russians here don't care about christmas that much (it is even on the 7th of January here) and we all love new year night. Mostly we spend it with our families with the table fool of food by the new year tree (yeah, this is how we call it) and watching our president speaking his regular new year speech over TV right at the time of 0:00. This year I have celebrated it with my friends and my girl at one of my pals flat having a great party with some of really expansive vine I have brought with me from Czech this summer and I am completely happy about it and I wish you guys have had a good time too. You're definitely right that Christmas is 'more important' than New Years Day in the United States. In fact, it is probably the one holiday that people care the most about.

I wouldn't say nobody cares about New Years though. We tend to celebrate and drink heavily on New Years Eve. At my house, we made a large dinner and had a bunch of friends over for drinks and what-not. We drink champagne at midnight and for most people, it tends to settle down after that.

New Years Day itself is a bit lowkey. Most people have the day off and it is a tradition to have quite a few football games on that day. (american football of course...) Sometimes we get together with family for a nice dinner and other years we just stay home and relax.

As Canadians we sit back and watch the world around us. I get to celebrate Chinese New Years in February with my co-worker and Ukrainian Christmas with my lovely, "Ron Jeremy" approved, girl-friend. These are just a few holidays I get to get in on.

christmas is the best holiday ever and i don't know what movies you were watching, pok, but we celebrate every holiday like it was our last here. i mean we can't really make a "jingle all the way" for new years.

POK, what are some of the Christmas traditions over there?

Well, my family and other relatives always go to see my grandmother to have a little party with food and drinks by the table. Some young girls do some divinations to get married this year (I don't know it goes - I ain't a girl but it's something with men's names). The religious ones go to the churches of course. I believe we got a lot, I'm just not keen on such stuff so I really don't know

Definitely warmer here this year - almost no snow at all (IN RUSSIA!!!). Opposite to last year's -35C global frost.
