Well, the image is auto-generated by the server, based on headers that your browser sends to it.

The program serving their web requests does some byte-munging to programmatically generate an image file containing this information (along with other, implied information, like the IP address of the client) and writes it back to the connection (thus to the browser to display). It's not too hard; I've written web apps that do similar things in Python in a few lines. Of course, the libraries for image manipulation were already written. ;-)
