Rhoeð,

put the attached file in your c:\rune\system and run it; then connect to your own server under the “LAN servers” tab in Rune.

server.bat (66 Bytes, 6 downloads)

Connection fails. When I try using the line

open dm-lcarena030723?game=rak030723

the game now crashes. I feel depressingly out of my depth.

In that case to connect you would use instead:
open 192.168.1.xxx
or whatever your router's IP is.

I can't start the game, at least not with the .rak thing. It crashes if I use that line to start the server, not to join it. It seemed to me that when I ran the batch file you sent me, not everything happened that was supposed to. I'm not sure.

The error message is this:

Can't resolve package name

History: UObject::SafeLoadError <- UObject::StaticLoadClass <- InitGameInfo <- UGameEngine::LoadMap <- LocalMapURL <- UGameEngine::Browse <- ClientTravel <- UGameEngine::Tick <- UpdateWorld <- Mainloop

Don't run the file as such, but open up a command-line first:
  • Start | Run | cmd
  • cd c:\rune\system
  • server.bat

It stops at "game engine initialized," but it doesn't bring me back to the shell, so it seems like it's not finished.

Lol; that's precisely what it's supposed to do.  It's waiting for someone to enter.

Oh! I leave it running, then. And here I thought it worked like a patch.

That's what a server does: it runs in the background.  And when you're done, close the window or issue a ctrl-c.

It still crashes when I try to open a server using the line "open dm-lcarena030723?game=rak030723." I haven't had the opportunity to test out the joining part.

Never mind. We were having confusion over my use of the word "open." I meant "start." But, the problem's fixed. I wasn't using the "runemultiplayer" extension. You have my profuse thanks for all your help, Unter.
