I had one done this morning... all's I have to say was the preparation was horrible. (Yesterday consisted of a liquid diet and a little bit of phosphosoda to "cleanse the system".)

Dant', some advice if you ever have to do this in your practice. Wait until the patient is completely put under!!! Mine didn't...

With Crohn's, it's just about the gold standard for checking out changes in the large bowel wall...

I've been to see half a dozen of these now and I hear you about the discomfort of it. That's pretty horrible you didn't get proper anaesthetic, but I'd have thought you were still a few years away from doing these on a regular/yearly basis..

Duly noted about the comfort needed, because if it was unpleasant like yours, and it doesn't always have to be, then you as a patient/consumer will be unlikely to come back for this screening procedure. In a way the doctor will be giving you negative reinforcement and 'make' you avoid these in the future.

A bit of both.

The initial result is negative for Chron's disease. (for now) Doc still thinks it's inevitable that I'll develop it someday.

Still awaiting results of biopsies from the inside of my large intestine. Then I'll know if I have colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, or something similar.

Thats to bad for you Mano. I know of two people from my town that have developed Crohn's disease. Hopefully they can catch yours in time. I know that the States have a better drug then what we have in Canada. Hopefully you are prescribed it.
