There's been talk recently of having a DL area on LC; might not be a bad idea: the forums are not typically ideal places for collecting files, though they'll do so in a pinch.

A couple candidates are File Track and ezUpload.  I myself might prefer the former; but I may well be seduced by the more professional website.

PS. One more: RW:ownload Manager v2.00.

well, to give a review of these three:

1. "file track" seemed very pro and sleek, but i think its more "broadcaster" material; an all-powerful admin is solely responsible for uploading files, not much freedom for people to try for some uploads themselves...
2. "ezupload" seems VERY similar in style to the present forum format; and very tweakable options lend itself to a lot of individualisation: specify the file types, sizes, dimensions, even ip (optional), etc etc. A moderator can be used, and uploading by individual people seems to be possible, but no real distinction on access...
3. "download manager" seems to be almost a flip of no.2, in that it is tight on security with its leech protection and customisable guest/member function...even admin approval is an option...however, lite on the options and specifications, and the format certainly looks a bit dated...

price of options 2, 3 are in the vicinity of 40-50 dollars...peanuts with the payment method finalised

please put forward your thoughts and suggestions...

if this happens, we can look forward to a lot of pretty maps, skins, etc...maybe a non-rune section...heck maybe even html or code ideas...

I think a seperate area for FINISHED projects is a great idea, and would greatly increase traffic as Runegame.com posts updates about stuff like that. We could still use the work in progress as the "beta test area" or sumthing (y/n? ).... but once done the project would be moved over to Download section >>>?

I'd have to concur with Dante: ezUpload seems to approach the kind of thing we'd expect in a Download section.

Well, the news is that ezUpload is very rough, but functional; in order to make it salvageable for us it will require a bit of integration work.  I'll see if I can't whip up something rough-and-ready; though I'm surprised that I haven't been able to more swiftly track down a professional program the likes of our gallery.

Name the prog and I might be able to find it.

PHP/MySQL; we're looking for something like a "download manager", "upload manager", "file manager", or even "transfer manager".  It may go by one, none or all of those names; but I think you get the picture on what exactly it's supposed to be: a gallery for our files.

Interesting; PHP-Manager isn't fancy-shmancy, but it does the trick.  Have you come across anything else, by chance?
