What do you want to know about sky-boxes?

\\ Have you ever built a Rune map? ...at least a textured room with a light and a playerStart?

in my opinion a textbook example of a skybox is the one in AR-Champions.

Make a cube-brush outside your map. Subtract it.
Texture and light it. Now go over to the Classes and select Info-ZoneInfo-SkyZoneInfo and place it in the sky box (this will be the location where Rune "places" your map: if you want the sky to be closer-put the SZI higher in the sky box and so on...).
Make sure that the ceiling' texture (and the walls if you wish) in your map is set to 'Fake backdrop' so you can see the textures of your sky box.
Rebuild/save/play.

that won't work, or it will but it will give you a spinning sky box.

an easier way is to cut a skybox you like out of an existing map and paste it in yours.

hey Shady how would that spin? I've been experimenting with spin/fog skyzones, and the only way I can get them "swirling" is by using the V-pan and U-pan features. I made one now that looks like yer in some waterfall fog or a nebula or sumthin... very trippy hehe/. for that one i used a "sky sphere" though not a box. Thumbs Up

On the right hand side go to "classes"

in that list scroll down to "Info" and expand that list

scroll down to "SkyboxInfo" and click it once

now in yer 3D view right click on the floor of your actual skybox and "add SkyboxInfo here"

Cool?
Let me know if that clears it up
wurd N stuff

if you use the default skyinfo then the fake backdrop will show the skybox spinning around your stationary camera angle where the stationary camera angle is your skyinfo.

that is the tutorial i used for my first skybox; that first skybox had the qualities i described in the previous post. if you are interested, do a step-by-step and you should get the spinning box effect.

He's right. I followed that same tutorial and got the spinning effect. I couldn't figure out why but I wrote it off as a user-error and gave up on sky boxes, lol.

Hmmm that could explain a bit , as when I do tutorials like that one, I only try the stuff I haven't done before. I usually butcher tutorials and incorporate all my other wacky ideas at the same time, so I don't follow the recipe exactly...
hehe salt, sugar, what's the diff?
Thanks though I will see if I can figure what is wrong with that Tut and let them know .
